It was a thrill last November when the Poetry Society of Texas selected my book as the 2014 Eakin Award winner, a joyful moment when I first saw Smallest Leaf in print this past spring, and now it is great fun to be going on the road doing readings from my book for fellow fans of poetry!
The adventure began with the Poetry Society of Texas Summer Conference hosted this past July in Beaumont. I was honored to unveil my book to the society and to have the opportunity to share my poems (in printed and bound form!) with so many poets that I so much admire. I did a reading from the book on Friday afternoon of the conference, and had a great time the rest of the event soaking in poetic inspiration from many excellent speakers, taking time for conversation with other poets, and signing many copies of my new book.
Last week I had the opportunity to present the first of several readings to Poetry Society of Texas chapters around the state. My first reading was at a meeting of Houston’s Poets Northwest and was held at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Thus far I’ve scheduled future presentations for the Fort Worth Poetry Society and the San Antonio Poets Association. I will also present a reading at a monthly meeting of the Poetry Society of Texas. My book will also be on display and for sale at the upcoming Poetry Society of Texas Awards Banquet in Dallas. You can keep updated on my events by visiting the Presentations page on my website.
Much thanks to all of you who have supported me throughout this project. Thanks to those who have purchased a copy of Smallest Leaf. Special thanks also to those who have let me know how much you have enjoyed reading. It means a lot to hear from those of you who have read and enjoyed my work.
Copies are still available for sale through my online store. If you’ve already got your copy, please drop me a line and let me know what you think of the book!
